- Note: Jonathan Gibson Taylor; he was born March 16, 1811 in Clark County, Kentucky (near Winchester). He was the first born of 9 children of Samuel Mitchell Taylor and Mildred Elkin Martin.
He was educated in Kentucky schools, later a student at the University of Danville.
He met Susan Elizabeth Hawes, the youngest daughter of Richard and Clary Hawes, while she was attending a school near his home. He and Susan were married June 21, 1832 at Susan's home near Yelvington, Kentucky. He was 21, she was 15.
In 1833 he started farming above Yelvington and acquiring more property; eventually 1,400 acres.
"He was one of the leading farmers of Yelvington Precinct. He probably cleared and brought into cultivation more land than any other man in Daviess County." Historical Atlas, Daviess County, 1876.
