Edwin Pendleton Taylor

- Note: Edwin Pendleton Taylor; he was the ninth child born to Jonathan and Susan Taylor. He was well educated and continued the farming of his father, growing mostly tobacco.
In 1890 the town of Yelvington was burned down and with it the tobacco stored in the town's tobacco factory. After the fire a new town was built at Powers Station (later name changed to Maceo by suggestion of County Judge E.P. Taylor).
According to the Owensboro Weekly Messenger, April 1890, "Mr. E.P. Taylor, an engineer, will be employed to lay out plans for the new railroad town. He will grade the streets and plant trees in the true boomer style".

Richard Hawes

- Mother: Ann Walker b. 23 August 1731, d. 1 April 1805
- Note: Richard Hawes; he was the fifth son, the ninth child, of Samuel Hawes II and Anne Walker Hawes, of Caroline County, Virginia. His parents were both from prominent, land holding families. Richard received a good education with some legal training.
Richard married Clara Walker in1792. He and Clara lived in Caroline County for 18 years, having a growing family of eight children.
Richard, Clara, and their children left Virginia for Kentucky in 1810. They first came to Jefferson County, (county seat, Louisville). About 1819, the family settled in Daviess County. In 1820 he and Clara purchased 3,000 acres of land that extended from Iceland Landing, 10 miles above Owensboro on the Ohio River, back to the hills around Yelvington.
A few years later he acquired a sizeable tract of land in the area of what was to become Hawesville, Hancock County. Both Hancock County and Hawesville were created by Kentucky law, Jan. 3, 1829. Hawesville was named for Richard Hawes who donate land for the town.

- Note: Clara Walker; daughter of Hugh Walker and Mary Catherine Montague, married Richard Hawes at age 16. While Richard and Clary lived in Caroline County, Virginia, their family grew to eight children. In 1810 the family left for Kentucky and lived for several years near Louisville, Kentucky. Clary’s youngest child (she gave birth to a total of 13, 11 lived beyond infancy) was born in Daviess County, Kentucky when Clary was 43 years old.
In Daviess County the family settled near Iceland Landing. Richard built a frame and brick home. When Richard died in 1829, Clary buried him in the hills near Yelvington. She moved the brick from Iceland Landing home to Yelvington and built a two-story home, completing it in 1832 - in time for the wedding of her youngest daughter, Susan to Jonathan Gibson Taylor.
In 1831 Clary established the ferry from Hawesville across the Ohio River to Cannelton, Indiana. The family continued to own and operate the ferry until 1858.

- Note: Albert Gallatin Hawes; he was the fifth son and the seventh child of Richard and Clary Hawes. He was born in Caroline County, Virginia April 1, 1805.
He was a distinguished and successful lawyer. He was the Hawes family lawyer, helping with many land transactions. He also represented his mother in establishing the ferry from Hawesville to Cannelton, Indiana.
He was elected to the U.S. Congress in 1831 and remained the elected congressman for two more terms. He married his cousin Susan Aylette Hawes April, 1833. Together they had two daughters.
After Susan died, 1840, Albert married Adele Combs. This marriage produced three children.
